Personally, I think the 3rd film tends to be good if the second is crappy. I'm sure there are a few cases where I am completely and wholly wrong, but in some cases, this is what I've observed.

Why so much hate, Hooks? So much negativity? Is Canada so bleak that you must lash out at all joy?
Hooks can't understand because in Canada they have believing in sitting down and negotiating with the ghosts. If a gigantic marshmallow man stepped on a church in a Canadian's town... well, he'd be invited over for moose and crumpets or whatever while they talk out their differences.
Also, FUCK YES GHOSTBUSTERS 3!
No hate, just an awareness that:
(a) sequels are rarely the equal of, let alone better than, the original; and
(b) long gaps between the original and the sequel (or further installments) decrease the odds further.
Yeah, whatever.
You're just a hater, plain and simple.

I can say these things because I care about this franchise. You've defended Citizen Kane enough* that I doubt you even like the original.

Like it? Yes, I do. I'll watch it whenever it comes on. Love it? No, I don't love it. Perhaps because I'm not so committed to the flicks, I'm able to gain some needed distance with regards to expectations …
